Yes today April 25,2014 is World Malaria Day

World Malaria Day is a day to recognise the global effort to control malaria.  Malaria is a parasitic disease transmitted by mosquitoes. The parasite is transmitted from one person to another by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito which requires blood to nurture her eggs. Each year, Roll Back Malaria partner organisations unite around a World Malaria theme. Defeat malaria is a three year theme partners chose for the period  of 2013-2015 to call attention to the need to reach the 2015 Millennium Development Goals and defeat malaria in the future.
Statistical Facts
- One million people die each year from malaria
- 1 in 5 childhood deaths are caused by malaria
- 10000 pregnant women and 200000 infants die from malaria in Africa.
- Malaria costs Africa more than 12billion dollars in lost GDP every year.
- Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria in Africa.
- 90% of all malaria deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa.

I even remember a neighbour of mine who died from malaria. So we should not underestimate the harm that malaria causes. Malaria Kills. Sleeping under an insecticide treated net(ITN) is the most effective proven method  of preventing malaria. Clean your surroundings, stale water, gutter etc.
I want to also appreciate EXXON MOBIL who funds these project implemented by Africare/Nigeria. Big Ups.
